Singer and songwriter John Denver touched millions of people, and achieved superstar status by his folk-inspired pop hits with a lot of them being set in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was born in Roswell, New Mexico. He was enthralled by Colorado and settled down in Aspen. Denver's national anthems to his adopted state have drawn many to Colorado. G. Brown, curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame stated it was because John Denver is the only artist to represent Colorado. In 2011 Denver was named the Hall of Fame's very first inductee. Denver is the symbol of Colorado for a lot of people around the world. When I travel, I always meet someone from the other side of the world someone who is from New Zealand and you say 'I'm originally from Colorado and the first thing that comes out of their mouths is"Oh John Denver! Brown stated. Take Me Home Country Roads was Denver's first Top 10 Hit as a solo artist after having worked with small folk groups. The track was written with Bill Danoff. Danoff composed the track in conjunction with Johnny Cash in mind but after Denver heard an early version he knew right away the song could be a hit single. Following the performance on stage in Washington D.C. to a massive crowd, Denver recorded it just days afterward.
