Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson - born Jacqueline Luesby to Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby, two British lawyers - was born on August 8, 1989, in Paris. She was moved to Oxfordshire at the age of five where she attended the Dragon School. At the age of six, Emma was aware she was going to become an actress. For several years, she studied at the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theatre school where she studied the art of acting and dancing. At the age of 10, she had appeared and played as the main character in several Stagecoach productions as well as school plays. In 1999 casting began for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the film adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was initially discovered as a casting agent through her Oxford drama instructor. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone and Ron Weasley told Emma after eight auditions that she had been chosen for these characters. Emma was chosen to play alongside Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. Emma's first film appearance was made with the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2002). The film was also the film that was most popular during 2001. Opening weekday and weekend ticket sales were record-breaking. The film was praised by critics and the performance of three leading actors of the young generation. The Daily Telegraph, a popular British paper, praised her for her performance. Emma was later awarded five prizes to honor her role in the movie.
